Artist Statement

In “Nutrient Flames”, I use ambient light, depth, and movement to symbolize flames, and to celebrate fire’s power to nourish and transform.

Inspired by

First cooking fires predate Homo sapiens
When we first learned to cook food it was one of the most important evolutionary moments of our species. It’s what transformed us into modern humans. A new study shows that early humans were cooking much further back in history than previously thought. Nutrients required for brain growth may have come from cooked fish. It is believed that Homo erectus communities of the so-called Acheulian culture (South Africa) show some of the earliest evidence of controlled fire use for cooking, a critical step in human evolution. “EVEolution” is an abstract reflection about our “genetic mother”, through carved layers revealing light and shadow. Which is the front, and which is the back side?
The monochromatic use of red tones and the carved-out forms are intended to add a sense of life, depth, mystery, and a timeless feel between Humanity and Earth..

“Veins of Light” is a reflection on the unseen forces that flow through everything—energy, life, and light itself. Just as veins are essential to life, light is essential to perception. The light within the glass is not static—it shifts and changes as you move, revealing new patterns and interactions. The interplay of light and color is central. Where will the veins of light take you? Follow their path and discover the currents that flow through the heart of “Veins of Light”.

“Underwater Ballet” is an exploration of fluidity, movement, textures and bubbles within the glass. These layers of fused glass are like the layers of the sea itself, in a world in constant motion, yet peaceful in its rhythm. In “Passage through Light” the cut-out space invites to question: What lies on the other side? The openness of the keyhole suggests that the journey through light is ongoing, that there is always something more to discover, both within the artwork and in life itself. It helps remind us that understanding comes not only from what we see, but also from the spaces left open to interpretation.

WHEN WE CHALLENGED THE SUN captures the emotional turbulence of the Hamas-Israel conflict/war started on October 7th, 2023. The war has left many of us questioning "Is the world we knew gone? Are we in pieces? Siamo a pezzi? Sind wir kaputt?

Just as the sun is vital for life, peace and humanity is essential for our collective soul. "When We Challenged the Sun" is a dialogue expressed through a fused glass canvas on loss, destruction, hope and the resilience of the human spirit amidst adversity.

Immerse yourself on a celestial journey with “Lunar Sun”, where the mystique of the moon with the radiant energy of the sun becomes the glass canvas for an abstract symphony! The expression revealed through painting with glass, are emotions, nuances, accents and rhythm inspired by the cover image and the music feel of Robert Plant’s album “Carry Fire” (2017).

In LAVA,  where chaos and creation coexist, the raw power and intricate beauty of volcanic activity find their expression in fused glass.

Volcanoes are nature's storytellers, their eruptions both a destructive force and a transformative one. In LAVA, I sought to capture the essence of these awe-inspiring events, where molten rock erupts from the Earth's core, shaping landscapes and igniting our collective imagination.

LAVA is a testament to the vivid hues and mesmerizing patterns that emerge when liquid fire meets the cool embrace of the world's surface.

But LAVA is not just an exploration of destruction; it's a celebration of renewal. Volcanic eruptions may leave devastation in their wake, but they also give birth to new land, and opportunities for rebirth.

SHATTERED UNITY is exploring the aftermath of divided territories and the pursuit of peace. I hit first with a hammer on a pre-fired thick stacked glass piece. The glass canvas represents the once cohesive territories now broken apart. This abstract painting in glass is intended to encourage viewers to reflect on the consequences of division while inspiring hope for unity and healing.

SHATTERED UNITY also carries a message of hope. It invites you to reflect on the profound consequences of division while inspiring a sense of optimism for the future. Just as the glass canvas was broken, it can also be mended.

In MEDITATING IN A STORM the transparency of the glass represents the vulnerability and openness of the human soul not only during meditation, as it exposes one's thoughts and emotions to the world around us.

You may find yourself drawn into the puzzle-like assembly of pre-fired fused glass chunks. Each piece, stacked and arranged, mirrors the complexities of our human experience. It's as if the glass itself is in a state of meditation, fighting with the turbulence of existence.
